EventScotland Urges European Tour CEO To Avoid PGA Championship, Solheim Cup Clash

European Tour CEO Keith Pelley has been asked to keep the European Tour's PGA Championship "away from the Solheim Cup when the two events are held in September for the first time" in '19, according to Martin Dempster of the SCOTSMAN. It was announced recently that the circuit's flagship event "was moving from its traditional May slot to the autumn in two years' time." The actual dates for the European Tour's PGA Championship have yet to be confirmed, but EventScotland contacted Pelley to request it "stays away from" September 13-15, 2019, when Gleneagles will be staging the 16th Solheim Cup. EventScotland COO Paul Bush said, "The BMW and the Solheim going head-to-head would be a disaster." A record crowd of "just under 125,000" attended last week's Solheim Cup in Des Moines, Iowa, and, while it would be "unrealistic to expect that" for the event in Perthshire, "every possible step is being taken to try to ensure the Solheim Cup in Scotland is well supported" (SCOTSMAN, 8/23).
