Thousands are expected to "miss out from taking part" in next year's Hong Kong Marathon after organizers "decided not to increase the quota of runners, limiting the city's biggest participatory annual event to 74,000 participants." Shanghai has been confirmed as the "only bidder for the 15th edition of the World Wushu Championships" in '19. It means that the city is "almost assured of winning the rights to host the event." However, the Int'l Wushu Federation constitution "still obliges the city to make a presentation before the World Championships can be officially awarded" (INSIDE THE GAMES, 8/14).
Thirty-four cities in the U.S., seven cities in Canada and three in Mexico are "on the list of proposed locations to host games at the 2026 World Cup," the U.S. Bid Committee announced on Tuesday. The organizers will reach out to each of the cities on the list and "those hoping to be selected will have until Sept. 5 to declare their interest" (ESPN.com, 8/15).
Sri Lanka's cricket board approved a tour to Pakistan, officials said on Monday. Sri Lanka Cricket President Thilanga Sumathipala said that after a security assessment, the team had been cleared to play three Twenty20 internationals, including "at least one" in Lahore. Any tour "would require government approval before the team is sent abroad" (AFP, 8/14).
The PGA Tour announced the first portion of its '17-18 season, a seven week-stretch through mid-November that features four official int'l tournaments, including the inaugural CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges from Oct. 16-22 in Korea (PGA Tour).
Ironman announced the addition of the Ironman Tallinn triathlon. The inaugural race will take place on August 4, 2018. Tallinn, Estonia, will become the second capital in Europe to host an Ironman event, along with Copenhagen, Denmark (Ironman).
