Football Notes: Pedophiles Targeting Premier League Youth Players On Snapchat

Pedophiles are "targeting Premier League youth players on Snapchat by posing as football agents and scouts in a bid to groom and entrap them." Everton Head of Safeguarding Adam Green said that "last season young players at the club revealed they had been approached through the messaging app by men who claimed they wanted to sign or represent them." Green said that this method of online grooming was "very prevalent" (London GUARDIAN, 7/29).

An investigative body is being established by FIFA to "probe match fixing allegations in Sierra Leone." Players and officials have given "mixed reactions to the panel being set up by world football's governing body." They are accused by the Sierra Leone FA of "attempting to fix a goalless draw 2010 World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Pretoria." Eleven officials and four players, who have all "denied any wrongdoing," have been suspended since '14 pending an investigation (BBC, 7/28).

At least two people were killed and 17 injured in a crush at South Africa's biggest stadium. It took place during the Soweto derby between Premier Soccer League sides Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in Johannesburg. Orlando Pirates said that "the crush happened when people attempted to push their way through the gates" into the 87,000-capacity FNB Stadium (BBC, 7/29).
