Franchise Notes: Sauber F1 Announces Multi-Year Agreement To Stay With Ferrari

The Sauber Formula 1 team announced a multi-year agreement on Friday to "continue using Ferrari engines after this season." The deal came a day after the team and Honda canceled a planned partnership from '18. It also ensures Ferrari will "retain two customer outfits" in addition to its own works entry. The move "casts doubt on the future of the team's line-up, with Germany's Pascal Wehrlein a Mercedes-backed driver while Ferrari have in the past placed some of their own academy youngsters with Sauber" (REUTERS, 7/28).

Women's Super League side Arsenal dropped "Ladies" from its name and became Arsenal Women. The club will be known as Arsenal, and said that it will use the "Women" title only when "official clarity" is needed. Arsenal is the fourth top-tier side to carry the "Women" name, with six teams using the "Ladies" moniker (BBC, 7/28).
