France Télévisions Recorded More Than 37 Million Viewers For 2017 Tour De France

The Tour de France, which was won by Chris Froome on Sunday, attracted “great audiences” for French broadcaster France Télévisions, according to Alexandre Bailleul of SPORTBUZZ BUSINESS. France Télévisions showed the competition in its entirety for the first time. In total, the competition was watched by more than 37 million viewers on France 2 and France 3. Over the 21 stages of the Tour, France 2 registered an average of 3.8 million viewers for a 38.4% market share. The biggest audience was recorded on July 9, with an average of 5.7 million viewers watching the Nantua-Chambéry stage. The largest peak audience was recorded for the arrival on the Champs-Elysées, with 7.3 million viewers. The Tour de France was “also very well received” on Twitter. In total, more than 3.9 million tweets about the competition were shared from July 1-23 (SPORTBUZZ BUSINESS, 7/25).

ON EUROSPORT: Eurosport recorded an average viewing number of 785,000 over the 21 stages of the Tour de France, a 10% increase over '16. Year-on-year growth was recorded in Germany (+37%), Spain (+32%), Italy (+17%), Denmark (+8%) and Romania (+6%), while Norway recorded a 411% average audience increase compared to '16 (Eurosport).
