Since Day and Clarke have resigned in the space of two months, "some believe this is a sign of wholesale changes to come" at ARU HQ (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 7/25). ... TOM HARLEY was confirmed as Australian Football League side Sydney Swans' next CEO on Tuesday, with the club "unveiling another succession plan for their leadership." Harley -- the club's current football operations manager -- was announced as the successor to "long-serving and highly respected" CEO ANDREW IRELAND. Ireland will "mentor Harley, with a handover not due to occur until" the end of '18 (THE AGE, 7/25). ... Former Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE has been appointed to the Australian Rugby League Commission in a move which "could eventually" result in him taking over from JOHN GRANT as chair. Grant on Tuesday announced Beattie as "one of two fresh appointments." The other is constitutional law professor MEGAN DAVIS. Grant is "due to step down at the end of his term in February and the expectation was that one of the two fresh appointments would eventually replace him at the apex of rugby league."
