Premier League Shirt Deals Reach Record Total Of $368M For '17-18 Season

Premier League clubs "have smashed their own record for combined shirt sponsorship deals," with the 20 teams generating £281.8M ($367.6M) for the '17-18 season, a rise of more than £55M ($71.7M) on last year, according to Alex Miller of SPORTING INTELLIGENCE. The increase "underlines the commercial strength" of the EPL, with shirt sponsorships "close to trebling in seven years." The combined total in '10-11 was £100.45M. ManU's club-record deal worth £47M ($61.3M) a year with Chevrolet "remains the biggest deal in the Premier League," and Chelsea’s with Yokohama remains second-biggest at £40M ($52.2M) a year. Man City's deal with Etihad has leapt to £35M ($45.7M) per year via a "step increase" in its contract, while Tottenham's renegotiated deal with AIA "has grown even more," also to £35M a year. Despite a "blanket ban on gambling within football," nine EPL teams will carry sponsorship from gambling companies this coming season. Not included "are new deals for sleeve sponsorship," starting for the first time in '17-18 (SPORTING INTELLIGENCE, 7/25). PL shirt deals 17-18 Source: SPORTING INTELLIGENCE
