Super Rugby side Leeds Rhinos player ROB BURROW will retire at the end of the season. Burrow, 34, has spent his entire career with the Rhinos, making 486 appearances to date since his debut in '01 (BBC, 7/19). ... JESSICA ENNIS-HILL will be presented with the heptathlon gold medal from the 2011 World Championships at this year's event in London after the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed Russian TATYANA CHERNOVA's appeal against her doping ban (REUTERS, 7/19). ... Surfers MICK FANNING and GABRIEL MEDINA were "plucked from the water" at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, because of a large shark. The incident is the "second in two days at the notorious break." Fanning, who was attacked two years ago by a great white in the event final, was surfing against Medina when their quarterfinal was put on hold. The large shark was moving toward the surfers from around 700m away when they were taken to safety (AAP, 7/20).

END OF AN ERA: Jamaican sprinter USAIN BOLT confirmed he will run the 100m and 4x100m relay at the World Championships in London in August, "his final event before retiring." He said, "My aim is to win in London, I want to retire on a winning note." The World Championships take place from Aug. 4-13 (BBC, 7/19).
