Mediapro Confirms It Will Have Exclusive Rights To Champions League In Spain

Mediapro confirmed that it will have the exclusive rights in Spain to the Champions League from '18-19 through '20-21, according to LIBERTAD DIGITAL. The news "confirms what has been assumed for weeks: there will be no Champions League games on free-TV and all matches will air exclusively on Mediapro's pay-TV channel beIN Sports." Games "will continue to take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but instead of a specific time, there will be two group stage games at 7pm, while the other six will be played at 9pm." This "means that two Spanish teams will never be playing" at the same time, unless five Spanish teams make it to the group stage. Although "the exact amount Mediapro paid has not been revealed, the total is estimated" to be €1B ($1.15B) (LIBERTAD DIGITAL, 7/19).
