Facility Notes: Bayern Munich Cancels Allianz Arena Contract With 1860 Munich

Bayern Munich canceled the contract with fourth tier side 1860 Munich at its Allianz Arena following talks between 1860 Managing Dir Markus Fauser and Bayern Vice-Chair Jan-Christian Dreesen. 1860 Munich previously held an equal stake in the stadium. Bayern acquired 1860's shares in '06 for €11M, but allowed its neighbor to "stage homes games as a tenant" (ESPN.com, 7/12).

New cooling technologies are "being rolled out to workers" on Qatar 2022 World Cup stadium sites during the "fierce heat of the summer months." More than 1,000 workers at the Al Wakrah site recently received "pioneering cooling towels." Two further schemes are also being piloted -- "lightweight evaporative cooling vests" which are in use at Al Wakrah and "cooled helmets" which are still at the trial stage (SKY SPORTS, 7/12).

Refurbishment work on Central Stadium in Yekaterinburg, Russia, one of 11 cities selected to host 2018 World Cup matches, is "ahead of schedule and the facility may be commissioned in October or November," general contractor Sinara-Development CEO Dmitry Pumpyansky said (TASS, 7/12).

League One side Shrewsbury Town confirmed a partnership with bottled water manufacturer Montgomery Waters and will rename its stadium Montgomery Waters Meadow (SHROPSHIRE STAR, 7/12).
