Event Notes: Lions Tours To Continue To '32 And Beyond, RFU CEO Ian Ritchie Says

British & Irish Lions tours will continue to '32 "and beyond," according to Rugby Football Union CEO Ian Ritchie. During the Lions' tour of New Zealand, there has been talk that "future tours could become a dead concept due to pressure over shortening the schedule." But Ritchie, who is on the Lions board, is "certain southern hemisphere tours will continue" and said that he is confident "proper and adequate" preparation time will be secured after negotiations with English clubs (STUFF, 7/5).

Indonesia is set to lead a consortium of southeast Asian countries in an "ambitious bid" to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Indonesian FA (PSSI) VP Joko Driyono said that the country "proposed to lead the South East Asian consortium" at an Asian Football Federation council meeting in Vietnam earlier this month. Driyono said that the consortium "had 17 years to prepare," with the deadline to register a bid in '26 (AFP, 7/5).

The All India Football Federation on Tuesday submitted an expression of interest to host the 2019 U20 FIFA World Cup. Preparing to organize the U17 World Cup later this year, AIFF President Praful Patel said that this would be the next "logical step for the development of football in India" (HINDUSTAN TIMES, 7/4).
