Premier League Side Everton To Spend Europe-High $104M On Transfers

Premier League side Everton, "once known as England's Bank of England club," is returning to its "high-spending ways" by becoming Europe's "heaviest spenders in the transfer window," according to Neil Robinson of REUTERS. The club paid £24M ($31M) for Burnley's Michael Keane on Monday to take its "overall investment" to £80M ($103.6M) this transfer window. Other arrivals include Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen (£23M/$29.8M), Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (£25M/$32.4M) and Henry Onyekuru (£6.8M/$8.8M). Everton's spending "has outstripped" Liverpool, which has so far paid £37M ($47.9M) for Mo Salah, and "every other club across the continent, although the picture may change as bigger clubs tie down summer deals." The cash outlay reflects Everton's "improved finances" since the arrival of co-Owner Farhad Moshiri, the Iranian billionaire who bought a 49.9% stake last year, and the "possible departure of striker Romelu Lukaku," who is expected to join either Chelsea or ManU for a fee of up to £100M ($129.5M) (REUTERS, 7/3).
