Finance Notes: Real Madrid's Fábio Coentrão Pays $1.9M In Back-Taxes

Real Madrid defender Fábio Coentrão paid €1.7M ($1.9M) in back taxes and charges "after appearing in court charged with alleged tax fraud." Coentrão "ran into trouble" with Spain's tax authorities, which pressed charges after "it was reported that he had not filed a return" from '11-14, and had been "making use of a network of overseas companies" to avoid paying €1,291,398 in taxes due on image rights income (ESPN.com, 7/3).

League Championship side Bolton Wanderers Chair Ken Anderson said that "bonus payments owed to players will be paid this week." The players are reportedly owed £500,000 ($646,800) in bonus payments after winning promotion from League One to the Championship last season (BBC, 7/3).
