Media Notes: ISBA Warns Fox's Takeover Of Sky 'Threatens Advertisers'

ISBA warned 21st Century Fox's takeover of Sky represents a potential "threat to advertisers." ISBA Media & Advertising Dir Mark Finney said, "We don't think the merger is good for advertisers." The trade body for 400 U.K. advertisers is one of a string of organizations, including rival media companies, that has made submissions to Ofcom, the media regulator, and the Department of Culture, Media & Sport, about Fox's planned £11.7B ($15.4B) deal. ISBA said that the takeover "threatens unwarranted consolidation of media ownership, representing a possible threat to advertisers" (CAMPAIGN LIVE, 6/30).

Sport1 acquired the German rights for the Star Sixes, a six-a-side veterans' football tournament to be played at The O2 in London. The competition will be live-streamed on sport1.de and aired on Sport1+, "with selected games on the free-to-air channel Sport1." There will also be a highlights magazine program on the following Monday (SOCCEREX, 6/30).

Eleven Sports signed a carriage deal that will see its channels become available to subscribers of Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom MOD. From July 1, Chunghwa Telecom MOD customers will have access to the live and exclusive premium sports events available on Eleven Sports including the Premier League, Serie A, the FA Cup, Cage Warriors, ATP World Tour 250 Tennis, the World Baseball Classic, the Chinese Basketball Association and Badminton Asia Championships (Eleven Sports).
