Facility Notes: Wimbledon Unveils State-Of-The-Art LED Lighting System

Wimbledon’s Centre Court recently had a state-of-the-art LED lighting system installed. The LED system was installed by U.S.-based Musco Lighting -- which worked with ME Engineering -- and features the company's Total Light Control technology. All England Lawn Tennis Club Estate Dir Robert Deatker said, "The purpose of the project was to improve the quality of lighting for broadcasters, whilst simultaneously improving the functionality of the lighting as part of the roof operation" (Wimbledon).

Ahead of the Confederations Cup final on Sunday, the pitch remained the "most troublesome issue" of St. Petersburg Arena, and it is "likely to pose a significant problem heading into the World Cup preparations." St. Petersburg radio station Sport FM Editor-In-Chief Tatyana Kopylova said, "The depth of the surface must be 50 centimeters in order for the grass to grow properly. However, the depth at St. Petersburg Arena was only planned to be 40 centimeters. Apparently, they might not have consulted the specialists when projecting the stadium, and now it is too late to change this" (ESPN.com, 7/1).
