League Notes: Sebastian Vettel Three Demerit Points Away From Suspension

Ferrari Formula 1 team driver Sebastian Vettel is three demerit points away from becoming the first F1 driver to be "suspended under the new regulations" surrounding FIA licenses. Vettel was "whacked with a 10-second stop-go penalty on lap 34 of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku and lost three points on his superlicense." Officials ruled Vettel had committed an act of "dangerous driving" for "appearing to drive alongside and steer into the side" of Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton when the race was "under a safety car" (NEWS.com.au, 6/26).

The Professional Cricketers' Association announced the launch of the England Women's Player Partnership. The EWPP has been set up to promote and protect the best interests of the England women's cricket team in regards to employment contracts and commercial rights. The news comes as the squad plays in the Women's Cricket World Cup as a professional team for the first time since becoming full-time contracted players in '14 (PCA).

The World Taekwondo Federation changed its name to World Taekwondo because of the "negative connotations" associated with the WTF acronym. The organization had used the previous name since it was established in '73. However, it felt in the "digital age," the slang of the old abbreviation was "unrelated to our organisation and so it was important that we rebranded to better engage with our fans" (BBC, 6/24).
