Man City Owner CFG Reportedly Close To Takeover Of La Liga Side Girona

Man City owner City Football Group is set to complete the purchase of La Liga side Girona, according to Artur Zanón of EXPANSIÓN. An agreement was reached in '15 that Man City "would acquire the club once it was promoted to La Liga." The "change in Girona ownership is imminent," sources close to the negotiations said. The club finished the '15-16 season with a profit of €582,370 "and has been able to improve its economic situation in recent months after escaping bankruptcy." Girona declined comment (EXPANSIÓN, 6/24). CITY WATCH reported in the summer of '15, agency Media Base Sports, led by Pere Guardiola -- the brother of Man City Manager Pep Guardiola -- bought 80% of Girona to alleviate the club of its £3M debt problem (CITY WATCH, 6/24).
