Football Notes: Hong Kong FA Wants To Be Part Of Potential China World Cup Bid

Hong Kong FA President Timothy Fok "called on Beijing to keep the territory in mind should China launch a bid to host the World Cup." Fok said that Hong Kong "proved it was a capable sporting partner after hosting the equestrian events during the 2008 Beijing Olympics" and that there had been a "movement toward spreading hosting rights out" (REUTERS, 6/12).

The Scottish Professional Football League confirmed "it is in discussion with clubs regarding the introduction of colt teams into the league pyramid." The organization is "wary of the difficulty of players making the step up from youth level into the first-team" and is seeking "different views and opinions from the clubs on what can be done" (SCOTSMAN, 6/12).

FIFA said that Cameroon's participation at the Confederations Cup in Russia this month is "in order despite complaints to the contrary." A written submission from Cameroonian club Etoile Filante de Garoua argued the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) "has no authority to send a team to the tournament" (BBC, 6/12).

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu on Monday pleaded his case in court, "denying responsibility" in response to accusations of fraud in the failed "Espai Memorial Camp Nou" project, which "contemplated the construction of 30,000 urns for those who wanted to deposit their loved one's ashes." Enrique Alavedra, an investor from VialProjectes Xe Futur, which "intended to do business in the Camp Nou," accused the club of "carrying on the project despite being aware" that the City Council would not "grant permission for its construction" (MARCA, 6/12).
