Event Notes: Floyd Mayweather Books MGM Grand In Las Vegas For August 26

Conor McGregor's £500M ($632.9M) "super-fight against Floyd Mayweather appears to have moved one step closer" with news the boxer "booked the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for August 26." Mayweather, who fought at the venue for the final dozen bouts of his career, "has come out of retirement to face UFC lightweight champion McGregor" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 6/12).

Rock band Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger" will "echo around the Stade de France ahead of Tuesday's friendly with England as the French pay respect to those killed in the London and Manchester attacks." A minute's silence was observed before kickoff for Saturday's World Cup qualifier between Scotland and England, with the "same tribute to be paid at the Stade de France on Tuesday" (PA, 6/12).

FIFA's next esports competition "promises to be the most ambitious yet." The organization and EA unveiled plans for the "largest ever" FIFA competition, using FIFA 18, this fall. Players worldwide will "have a shot at representing real-world teams in official competitions," and Ultimate Team Championships Cups will "let virtually anyone qualify for a chance at glory in winter and spring events" (ENGADGET, 6/12).

Scottish Premiership side Celtic will take on Czech club Slavia Prague in a preseason friendly next month. Celtic announced on Monday that it will travel to Prague to "take on" the Czech Liga winner on July 4 (HERALD SCOTLAND, 6/12).

The Int'l Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed on Sunday the teams that will participate in a new global team-sport league -- the Hockey Pro League. The new league, which is due to launch in January '19, will see the nine best men's and women's teams from around the world play each other at home and away every year (FIH).

Fan-led sports media company Ball Street "created its own football tournament by recruiting some of YouTube's biggest football teams." The headline sponsor has been confirmed as FanLeague -- "the football predictions app whose launch coincides with the tournament" (SPORT INDUSTRY, 6/12).
