League Notes: FFT President Laments Performances Of French Men At Roland Garros

French Tennis Federation (FFT) President Bernard Giudicelli "hit out at the country's male players after their disappointing run" at the French Open, saying that "they lacked physical strength and grit." No French man went past the fourth round at the French Open this year. Giudicelli said, "What the French men lacked to go further, it's grit. ... Enough talking. We need to work according to the norms of modern tennis. It means having physical abilities very early and also working on the mental" (REUTERS, 6/8).

Former Canadian rugby int'l Jamie Cudmore has called for Top14 club Clermont to "face summary court proceedings over being forced to play despite displaying what could have been symptoms of concussion." Cudmore, who played for the club from '05-16, asked for medical expertise "to decide if he was the victim of two concussions and if he was fit to go back on to the pitch" (RUNNING RUGBY, 6/8).
