Barcelona Defends Qatar Airways Deal, Says It Earned €171M

Amid "controversial alleged illegalities" concerning the club's deal with Qatar Airways, Barcelona issued a statement to "defend the absolute legitimacy" of the deal that ran from '10-16, according to MARCA. Barcelona said that it earned a total of €171M for six years and broke down the sum it received on a season-by-season basis:

  • '10-11: €15M
  • '11-12: €26M
  • '12-13: €29M
  • '13-14: €30.5M
  • '14-15: €37M (including €5M in the Champions League)
  • '15-16: €33.5M
As reported by El Confidencial, former Barcelona President Sandro Rosell is currently under investigation by Spain's Guardia Civil for "allegedly profiting from the aforementioned contract deal, with Barcelona declining any involvement and providing the Judicial Police of Barcelona with copies" of its revenue (MARCA, 6/7).
