Finance Notes: Juventus Shares Up 145% In '17 Despite Monday's Setback

Despite falling as much as 15% on Monday after the club's 4-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Cardiff on Saturday, shares of Juventus Football Club SpA have gained about 145% this year. Revenue from player sales, a "bigger focus" on int'l merchandising and "increasing investment" in Italian football clubs by Chinese investors have "boosted shares of the team" (BLOOMBERG, 6/5).

Northern Premier League club Ilkeston has been "wound-up in the High Court" over a £14,438 ($18,639) debt. The club was formed in '10 as a successor to liquidated Ilkeston Town, but had a "troubled" '16-17 season as it "fought financial difficulties." The club was temporarily suspended by the league before the season started for "not paying creditors" and players have not been paid since December (BBC, 6/5).
