League Notes: Sport Ireland Issues Ultimatum To Irish Athletic Boxing Association

Sport Ireland wrote a "strongly worded" letter to the Irish Athletic Boxing Association outlining a “crisis” that the sport could face in less than five weeks’ time. SI CEO John Treacy communicated with IABA CEO Fergal Carruth, "outlining his reservations about the IABA’s lack of implementation of the recommendations of the Rio Review." This could "directly" affect the funding of the IABA, "which is financially supported through SI" (IRISH TIMES, 5/30).

The Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) is "looking to cut more events from the 2018 Asian Games for the sake of efficiency." The Olympic Council of Asia already gave INASGOC "permission to reduce the number of disciplines in the Games from 42 to 39." INASGOC "now wants to reduce the total number of sporting events from 431 to 421." The organizers said that they want to cut events "to reduce costs" (JAKARTA GLOBE, 5/30).

The Turf Club expects to agree to a protocol within the next two weeks that will allow racing’s regulatory body to "carry out drug testing on stud farms."  The establishment of a mechanism which would allow Turf Club officials to carry out such testing was a "central recommendation of an Anti-Doping report" released at the start of '16. It came from a 16-member Anti-Doping Task Force set up by Horse Racing Ireland and the Turf Club (IRISH TIMES, 5/29).
