Facility Notes: Floating Football Pitch To Be Used During Champions League Festival

A "floating football pitch" has been unveiled in Cardiff Bay ahead of the Champions League festival opening later this week. The pitch will host the "traditional Ultimate Champions match which features previous winners including Ryan Giggs." It is the "first time a floating pitch has been used at the festival" (BBC, 5/30).

It has taken eight years and "much debate" but work is "finally about to start on stage two of Fraser Park Sportsville." Construction of the NZ$12M ($8.5M) club rooms will begin "within the next six weeks," with a completion date of spring '18. The 100-meter long and 30-meter wide building "will serve a range of clubs and codes," including rugby, softball, field hockey and squash. Stage one, which cost NZ$3M, was completed in '15 (STUFF, 5/29).
