Finance Notes: Glazer Family Pocketing £18M Dividend From ManU

The six Glazer siblings who own the majority of ManU will be paid £18M ($23.3M) as a dividend by the club this year, following £15M last year, according to the club's latest financial statements. The accounts for the three months to March 31 of Manchester United Plc. confirm the dividend, an annual 18 cents on each share owned, "will be paid again" in '16-17. The five sons and one daughter of the late Malcolm Glazer, who bought ManU in '05, own 131 million shares, a club spokesperson confirmed. The dividend of 18 cents adds up to $23.58M ($30.58M) payable to the family which, "due to the fall in the value of the pound against the dollar following the referendum vote for Brexit last year," is worth £18.3M ($24M) (London GUARDIAN, 5/16).

Australian Football League side Adelaide Crows is the first mainstream Australian sports organization to buy a professional esports team. The Crows bought professional outfit Legacy eSports -- one of Australia's eight top-tier teams that competes in the Oceanic Pro League playing the game League of Legends. A decision "has not been made" on whether Legacy will eventually take on the Adelaide Crows' name, branding or colors (THE AGE, 5/17).

EPL side Leicester City owner King Power agreed to purchase Belgian second division side OH Leuven. The club's board said that King Power "was the only bidder who made a clear and coherent proposal." It added that King Power -- founded by Leicester Chair Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in '89 -- "will fund an expansion of the club's youth system" (BBC, 5/17).
