Atlético To Allow Fans To Buy Seats; Club Has Sold 50,000 Season Tickets For '17-18

Atlético Madrid will allow club members to take "their" seat away when the Estadio Vicente Calderón closes this summer, "while pursuing disciplinary proceedings against individuals who removed seats" after the Champions League semifinal second leg against Real Madrid, according to Dermot Corrigan of ESPN.com. The club released a statement "laying out an orderly process" in which fans can request "their" seats once all of the events scheduled for this summer have taken place. The statement said, "The club want their season-ticket holding members to be able to keep an unforgettable memorial of these historic dates" (ESPN.com, 5/16). In Madrid, Patricia Cazón reported Atlético on Tuesday reached a total of 50,000 season tickets sold for next season, "meaning 75% of seats at the new stadium have been sold." The cheapest season ticket at the new stadium costs €250 ($277) (AS, 5/16). The club on Tuesday tweeted a video offering a look at the new stadium.
