Finance Notes: Victorian Racing Broadcaster Opposes Tatts, Tabcorp Merger

The Victorian racing industry's broadcaster, Racing.com, "lined up with CrownBet and other corporate bookmakers to oppose the merger of Tatts and Tabcorp." This puts Victoria "at odds with the rest of the country." All "other state racing bodies back the merger, as do the jockeys, trainers, hoteliers and clubs." Tabcorp said that the merger will create A$50M ($37.1M) in annual benefits for the racing industry (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 5/14).

When it raised more than £1M on crowdfunding platform Crowdcube in Oct. '15, Vulpine Performance "seemed to have the wind behind it." The cycling clothing brand had shot "glossy promotional films" in Italy and Norway, struck a collaboration with Olympic Gold Medalist Chris Hoy and said that it was "on course to break even." Less than two years later, it is "about to collapse." Two partners from accountancy firm RSM were due to be appointed administrators on Monday, with the "likelihood of losses for about 600 shareholders" (SUNDAY TIMES, 5/14).

Tennis player Andy Murray "completed a further three investments in British companies on equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs." The investments, which are part of his "ongoing promotional partnership with the platform," see Murray add smart home system firm Den along with property lender Landbay and Morpher, the company behind the "world's first flat folding helmet" (BDAILY, 5/15).
