Whether U.S. President DONALD TRUMP will travel to Peru in September to promote L.A.'s 2024 Olympics bid is "an open question but many believe the controversial leader would do more harm than good as the city vies with Paris for the Games." Trump's exec order to temporarily ban travel from six Muslim-majority countries, which is currently being reviewed in the courts, "could prove problematic with the diverse membership" of the IOC. L.A. Mayor ERIC GARCETTI said, "The president is willing to play whatever role that we ask and that is needed" (REUTERS, 5/13). ... FIFA Secretary General FATMA SAMOURA, "in the job for barely a year, has been caught paying" over 28,000 Swiss francs ($27,972) to a cleaning company for "the servicing of her own private living quarters." Samoura "was found out after it was highlighted" by new FIFA auditor PricewaterhouseCoopers. She "secretly paid the money back and PwC covered up the indiscretion by not mentioning it" in its '16 audit (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 5/13). ... Argentine footballer EZEQUIEL LAVEZZI is "facing a serious backlash from fans after seemingly attempting to impersonate a Chinese person" during a commercial photo shoot for Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune. In an "official promotional photo recently released by the club, Lavezzi is seen smiling and making an offensive facial expression" while wearing the club's red tracksuit (GOAL, 5/14). ... The UK-Anti Doping hearing involving TYSON FURY has been postponed, "threatening the former world heavyweight champion's plans to return to action on July 8." UKAD took its decision because of a "potential conflict of interest involving a member of its panel" (London INDEPENDENT, 5/13).
