Media Notes: Spain's CNMC Orders Telefónica To Compensate Competitors

Spain's National Commission of Markets & Competition (CNMC) ruled that Telefónica must "compensate some of its competitors, including Vodafone." The broadcaster "will appeal the ruling." Telefónica must also compensate Telecable and Total Channel "for imbalances in the prices they had to pay to distribute Canal+ Liga and Canal+ Partidazo during the '15-16 season" (EFE, 5/10).

German anti-media concentration commission KEK "granted the green light to two new OTT channels for sports fans." Sportstadt.tv "wants to report about types of sports not usually covered by mainstream TV broadcasters." The channel will be offered as a livestream at www.sportstadt.tv and "mainly target people from the Düsseldorf region." German Football Fernsehen (GFL TV) will focus on the German Football League (GFL), the first-division league of American football in Germany (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 5/10).

The IAAF opened public tenders for Europe and Africa media rights concerning the IAAF World Athletics Series and for the establishment of a joint venture for broadcasting and media production. The agreement will cover all IAAF World Athletics Series competitions and the period will be determined following negotiations (IAAF).
