Swansea City Reacts Angrily After Supporters Sell Tickets Donated By Players

Premier League side Swansea City "reacted angrily" after free tickets handed out to supporters for Saturday's "crucial" relegation clash at Sunderland were "put up for sale online," according to Riath Al-Samarrai of the London DAILY MAIL. The club "threatened to revoke membership and season tickets of any fans who sold the tickets," which had been paid for by the first-team squad. The players collectively put in roughly £75,000 ($97,000) on the suggestion of captain Leon Britton to "buy out the full allocation" of 3,000 at the Stadium of Light. Those tickets were "snapped up in a matter of hours," but on Wednesday, club officials confirmed "a few dozen" had been put up for sale on a ticket-selling website for upward of £60 ($77.63) each. A club spokesperson said, "We have been made aware of one unofficial ticket outlet apparently selling the tickets for the game" (DAILY MAIL, 5/10). In Cardiff, Geraint Thomas reported the news has also "been greeted with anger from fans." One Swansea supporter said on Twitter, "Few things in sport get me as wound up as these websites. How are they still allowed to operate?" (WALES ONLINE, 5/9).
