Olympic Notes: Paris 2024 Committee Releases Online Game

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic bid committee announced the release of a new online game -- Paris 2024 Run -- which allows users to go on a virtual tour of the Paris 2024 Games vision. The game, developed by French company Gameloft, a subsidiary of Paris 2024 partner Vivendi, gives users the ability to instruct their chosen character to run, dodge and jump through Paris, with the backdrop featuring celebration areas, Parisian landscapes and competition venues (Paris 2024).

Eight men accused of "being part of a terrorist organization and threatening the 2016 Olympic Games" were convicted on Thursday in Curitiba, Brazil, on the charges of "promoting a criminal organization, recruitment for the practice of acts of terrorism and criminal association." According to investigators, the eight Brazilians promoted terrorist organization ISIS "through posts in their social networks" from March through July of '16, the months prior to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Officials said that the men used closed Facebook groups to "share extremist material and to plan attacks on Brazilian territory" (RIO TIMES, 5/5).
