The British Olympic Association announced GOLDIE SAYERS as Team GB’s deputy chef de mission for the Győr 2017 European Youth Olympic Festival. The former javelin thrower ended a 20-year career in the sport which saw her compete at three Olympic Games (Team GB). ... Serie A side AS Roma confirmed former player FRANCESCO TOTTI will retire at the end of the season. The 40-year-old, who has made more than 600 appearances for Roma since his debut in '93, has made "only one start in Serie A this season." Totti's final game will be on May 28 (London GUARDIAN, 5/3). ... MARIA SHARAPOVA is "waiting to hear if she can play at the French Open later this month" but men's world No. 1 ANDY MURRAY "expects her to be at Wimbledon in July." Sharapova returned in April from a 15-month doping ban to reach the semifinals at the Stuttgart Open, but "did not earn enough points to qualify for Roland Garros and is reliant on a wildcard for the qualifying tournament." Murray: "I think there's a good chance Wimbledon would give her one (a wildcard) to get into qualifying" (AAP, 5/3).
