Crystal Palace's Redevelopment Of Selhurst Park Held Up By Sainsbury's

EPL side Crystal Palace's redevelopment of Selhurst Park is "being held up" by supermarket Sainsbury's, according to Sam Cunningham of the London DAILY MAIL. Plans are in place to "extend the main stand and increase the stadium's capacity from 26,000 to around 32,000." Crystal Palace "explored the possibility of locating a brand new site and building a stadium," but believes the process "could take a decade" and that working on its current site "will be quicker." Crystal Palace has looked at how Liverpool has developed Anfield's main stand to increase the stadium's capacity by 8,500. But the club is being delayed by what it considers "extortionate demands to buy the extra land" it requires from Sainsbury's for the work to begin. Negotiations are ongoing between the club and Sainsbury's (DAILY MAIL, 5/2).
