ManU Manager José Mourinho Launches Social Media Crackdown

ManU Manager José Mourinho "instigated a crackdown" on his players' use of social media, according to Jack Pitt-Brooke of the London INDEPENDENT. Mourinho is "frustrated with how much the players make public online and has brought in a strict new set of rules governing what they can and cannot publish" on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram. ManU players "have been told that the club does not want them to publish any pictures from training, from the 48 hours leading up to a game or especially from the team bus on the way to games." Mourinho wants to "restrict the flow of information out of the club, especially at sensitive times, and also wants to make sure his players are fully focused" on matchdays (INDEPENDENT, 5/2). In London, Jack Gaughan reported Ander Herrera was "the latest to be reminded of the rules last week after uploading a short clip of him thrusting a cake in Juan Mata's face" to celebrate his teammate's 29th birthday. Mourinho insisted players "steer clear of social media activity shot in their inner sanctum," with Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba "rebuked for uploading a video of the pair dancing at Carrington" (DAILY MAIL, 5/2).
