Facility Notes: Welsh Club Making Contingency Plans As Sardis Road Faces Pitch Tests

Welsh Premier Division rugby side Pontypridd has been "forced to prepare contingency plans with a huge match" against RGC 1404 due to take place at Sardis Road this Saturday. The artificial surface that was installed last summer has "come under the microscope after a number of Merthyr RFC players suffered awful burns whilst playing on the pitch." Tests will be conducted on the surface throughout the week and a decision on "whether or not it is playable" will be made on Thursday (WALES ONLINE, 5/1).

The "threat" of Musselburgh Racecourse having its racing license revoked "may not be resolved for at least another month." A meeting of the Musselburgh Joint Racing Committee last week, the first since September, "failed to make any substantial progress relating to the issues that have caused the track to be operating on a temporary licence from the British Horseracing Authority." This is the second consecutive three-month license issued by the BHA and it is due to expire on June 30. However, it is "unlikely that the committee can meet again until the end of this month at the earliest" (HERALD SCOTLAND, 5/1).
