Media Notes: FOX Sports Latin America Buys Into New CONCACAF Competitions

The expanded CONCACAF club competitions, including the Champions League, "signed their first major broadcast deal for the new format with FOX Sports Latin America." The five-year deal renews Fox's existing broadcast deal from '17-18 to the end of the '21-22 season. No figure "was announced for the broadcast rights buy," which is exclusive across all platforms for Mexico and South America, as well as exclusive for pay-TV rights and digital platforms for Central America (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 5/1).

Journalists from The Sun will be allowed to attend European games at Liverpool and Everton next season despite their ban from Anfield and Goodison Park. UEFA is responsible for matchday accreditation for the media for the Champions League and the Europa League. UEFA will reportedly "approve any accreditation requests from writers at The Sun for matches." Liverpool banned journalists from The Sun earlier this season after holding talks with the Hillsborough Family Support Group following the publication's coverage of the Hillsborough disaster in which 96 people died (London INDEPENDENT, 4/29).

Shanghai-based digital marketing agency Mailman Sports CEO Andrew Collins wrote a letter to journalists laid off by ESPN. In it, he pointed out that there are more than 300 million basketball players in China and the NBA has more than 7 million more followers on Sina Weibo than on Twitter. Collins invited those laid off to share a tip for the Chinese media and said that Mailman will fly the five who provide the best responses to Shanghai for an interview and learning session with Mailman's management team (Mailman).
