The United States of America Cricket Association faces expulsion from the Int'l Cricket Council in June, the sport's global governing body said on Monday, according to Aditi Prakash of REUTERS. USACA was suspended in '15 with several reinstatement conditions after the ICC found that the organization "did not have widespread authority over the country's cricket activities and lacked unity." The ICC said that USACA had failed to work "succesfully with a group set up to help them rectify the position and had breached several other reinstatement conditions." ICC CEO David Richardson said in a statement, "Our focus throughout this two year process has been on the unification of the USA cricket community behind USACA to grow and develop the sport. USACA's refusal to engage in the process ... its apparent failure to put the ICC Board-approved constitution before its members without legitimate excuse undermines the all-important objective of uniting the sport" (REUTERS, 5/1). The PTI reported cricket has been "fractured" in the U.S. for "some considerable time" and the ICC board had "previously determined that this was unacceptable and needed to be remedied." During its various meetings, the ICC's Sustainable Foundation Advisory Group developed a revised governance model. The ICC Board "subsequently considered various versions of this model" and, in February, "requested USACA to put a final version of a constitution to its membership for approval." Despite this request, it appears that the USACA "failed to send its members a copy of the ICC approved constitution and instead presented an alternative version to its membership," which was subsequently adopted at a special general meeting on April 8. The alternative constitution included proposals that the ICC board had "specifically rejected" (PTI, 5/1).
PULLOUT UNLIKELY: REUTERS' Amlan Chakraborty reported the Board of Control for Cricket in India "will meet on Sunday to consider an additional revenue offer from the game's world governing body" but regardless of what decision it reaches, "a Champions Trophy pullout by the holders looks unlikely." Unaccustomed to "being snubbed" at the ICC meetings, the BCCI was outvoted 13-1 last week in its bid to "stall a new revenue model which considerably slashes India's share from global events" in the '15-23 cycle (REUTERS, 5/1).
RESIGNATION REJECTED: The PTI also reported Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif rejected Pakistan Cricket Board Chair Shaharyar Khan's resignation and "asked the senior administrator to complete his three-year term." According to "reliable sources" in the PCB, Shaharyar sent his resignation to the "patron-in-chief" of the PCB before going to attend the "crucial" ICC meetings in Dubai. The source said, "But after Shaharyar returned from Dubai after attending the ICC meetings where the Big Three governance system was rolled back, he has been informed by the Prime Minister's house that he should carry on working and complete his term which ends in late August" (PTI, 5/1).
