AFL Side Hawthorn Appoints Olympic Cyclist As Club's First Female CEO

Former Olympic cyclist Tracey Gaudry was appointed as Australian Football League side Hawthorn’s CEO in a "landmark moment" for the league, according to Courtney Walsh of THE AUSTRALIAN. Gaudry, who rode on the professional circuit for seven years and has "since held senior administrative roles in sport," is the first woman to hold the CEO role at club level. Hawthorn President Richard Garvey said that the club was "thrilled to appoint Gaudry, a mother of three, to the role." Garvey said, "Our process has been extensive and thorough and Tracey has impressed along every step of the way." After her cycling career, Gaudry had roles with Athletics Australia, the Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) and the IOC (THE AUSTRALIAN, 5/1). ABC reported in her role at AA, Gaudry "helped launch the successful Nitro Athletics competition, which debuted earlier this year." Gaudry is also a VP of the UCI, a role "she is set to continue once she takes up her position" with Hawthorn at the end of May (ABC, 5/1). Gaudry said, "It is a privilege to have built a career in sport over two decades, and to have the opportunity to bring all of my knowledge and experience in national, international, sport-specific and whole-of-sport roles to Hawthorn Football Club" (Hawthorn).
