Former Dutch Olympic speed skating champion BOB DE JONG will coach the South Korean national team for next year's Winter Olympics. The Korea Skating Union said that de Jong, 40, will "serve as an assistant coach on the national speed skating team for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics" (YONHAP, 4/26). ... IOC member and Int'l Triathlon Union President MARISOL CASADO was appointed to four of the IOC Commissions. Casado will serve on the Women In Sport, Olympic Solidarity, Public Affairs & Social Development Through Sport and Evaluation for the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad Commissions, while ITU honorary member SARAH SPRINGMAN will serve on the IOC Sustainability & Legacy Commission (AROUND THE RINGS, 4/26). ... India's first woman IOC member, NITA AMBANI, was appointed to two "important commissions of the global sports governing body," including the Olympic Channel. Ambani was also made a member of the Olympic Education Commission as the IOC announced the composition of 26 commissions for '17. She is one of 16 members of the Olympic Channel Commission headed by U.S. Olympic Committee Chair LAWRENCE FRANCIS PROBST (PTI, 4/26). ... BILL NG, who tried to buy Scottish Premiership side Rangers, has been "arrested in Singapore after a probe into missing funds" at Singapore club Tiong Bahru, which he owns. The businessman made a "shock attempt" to take over Rangers in April '12 after the Ibrox club went into administration. Ng is running for president of the FA of Singapore, but his bid "is in tatters" after he and his wife, BONNIE WONG, were arrested (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 4/26).

BACK TO JAIL: Brazilian footballer BRUNO FERNANDES has been "ordered to return to jail to continue serving his 22-year-term for his role in the kidnapping and murder of his former girlfriend" in '10. The ex-Flamengo goalkeeper had been "released on parole pending an appeal after seven years in jail." He "admitted conspiring with friends" who murdered ELIZA SAMUDIO and fed her body to dogs, but denied direct involvement (BBC, 4/26).

GAMBLER'S REMORSE: The "tumultuous" career of JOEY BARTON looks to have "finally come to an end after the controversial footballer was banned from the game for 18 months on betting charges." The 34-year-old, currently registered as a player with Premier League side Burnley, accepted FA charges that accused him of having placed 1,260 bets on football matches from '06-13. This figure "included at least five matches in which Barton was a player." He plans to appeal against the length of his suspension and claims that there was nothing "untoward or suspicious" about his behavior (London GUARDIAN, 4/26).
