Serie A Side AS Roma Confirms Monchi As Sporting Director

Serie A side AS Roma confirmed the appointment of Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, more commonly known as Monchi, as the club's new sporting director. The Spaniard signed a four-year contract, with an option for a fifth year. Monchi spent the last 17 years as sporting director with La Liga side Sevilla, the club for which he also played, where he won nine major honors (AS Roma). FOOTBALL ITALIA reported the 48-year-old "broke through" Sevilla's youth system as a goalkeeper and went on to play 85 games for the first team from '90-99. However, he is best known for his 17-year spell as the club's sporting director, in which he "masterminded an era of unprecedented success for the club" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 4/24).
