League Notes: Sharapova To Learn French Open Eligibility On May 15

Maria Sharapova will learn on May 15 whether she can compete at the French Open after her drugs ban, French tennis officials said Thursday, "insisting the absence of pregnant Serena Williams would have no bearing on their decision." Two-time Roland Garros champion Sharapova "controversially returns next week from a 15-month drugs ban" at the Women's Tennis Association Stuttgart Grand Prix. French Tennis Federation President Bernard Giudicelli said last month that the organization "faced a moral dilemma" and "hinted he was against it" (AFP, 4/20).

Alcohol consumption has been officially banned in MotoGP since '04 but organizers are "planning a fresh way to guarantee the safety of their racers by implementing random breathalyzer tests on race weekends." The FIM approved the '17 medical code that will select three participants for tests without prior notification. A result of 0.10 grams of alcohol per liter of blood is the "upper limit" (MARCA, 4/20).
