Brighton & Hove Albion Staff To Receive Bonuses After Club Secures Promotion

While League Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion's hierarchy began "planning how best to invest" the £200M ($255.8M) "windfall" it will receive for securing promotion to the Premier League, its staff is thinking "how they might spend" their own bonuses, according to Matt Lawton of the London DAILY MAIL. Thanks to a "scheme" devised by club Chair Tony Bloom and CEO Paul Barber to "incentivise the staff" from the start of last season, everyone from the match-day stewards to the directors "will receive a promotion bonus" equivalent to 10% of their salary in next month’s pay packet. Based on Brighton's performance over the last year, a further 10% "could also be coming their way." It is all part of "what they call the TEAM Brighton Values," which were drawn up after consulting with staff when they made the move from the Withdean Stadium to the Falmer Stadium in '11. Spelling out TEAM, they are "treat people well," "exceed expectations," "aim high" and "make it special." Barber said, "If you want a high performance environment you can’t just focus on the athletes. When we had our poor season, two-and-a-half seasons ago, and we brought [Manager] Chris [Hughton] in, we realized that we needed to galvanize the whole staff" (DAILY MAIL, 4/18).
