Octagon named MATTHIEU FENAERT exec director of Octagon Russia. Fenaert, previously co-managing director of Octagon Brazil, will be based in Octagon’s Moscow office and lead the agency's marketing and events business through the FIFA Confederations Cup this summer and next year's World Cup (SBD Global). ... The U.K. government recruited Premier League Exec Chair RICHARD SCUDAMORE to co-chair a new Sports Business Council that will bring the government and leading sports figures from the public and private sector together to ensure the sport economy continues to grow and prosper. The Sports Business Council will focus on supporting growth for the sports sector, improving access to finance and developing skills. It will look to exploit the U.K.'s reputation as a global sporting power with expertise in hosting major events and developing int'l brands like the Premier League, driving exports abroad and seeking opportunities (U.K. Government). ... Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment named ArenaNetwork VP/Entertainment TINA SUCA VP/industry relations. Suca will report to Senior VP/Programming KEITH SHELDON. BS&E also named NBC Olympics Dir of National Sales ANDY MILLER exec director of global partnerships (BS&E). ... The Pakistan Cricket Board appointed former player HAROON RASHID as director of cricket operations. The 64-year-old resigned as chief selector after the Pakistan team picked for the 2016 World T20 "badly flopped and exited in the first round" (DAWN, 4/18). ... Basketball Australia named SANDY BRONDELLO women's national basketball team head coach, "with her two assistants to be appointed." Brondello will share the Opals role with her Women's National Basketball Association duties but will "end her role as an assistant coach" with Russian club UMMC Ekaterinburg. Brondello played 302 games for the Opals and won three Olympic medals before entering coaching (THE AGE, 4/18). ... Bengal coach MRIDUL BANERJEE was appointed East Bengal coach less than 12 hours after TREVOR MORGAN put in his resignation (PTI, 4/18). ... League Championship side Birmingham City appointed HARRY REDKNAPP as its new manager. The former West Ham, Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers manager succeeds GIANFRANCO ZOLA, who resigned on Monday (BBC, 4/18). ... Fenway Sports Management announced KATE HOGAN and SHELBY AUBIN were promoted to director and coordinator of consulting & events, and MATHEW BERNSTEIN and COURTNEY REILLY joined the agency as manager of digital strategy and partnership development and manager of consulting & events, respectively (FSM).
