IOC Sticking With Peru As Site Of 2024 Vote Despite Floods

The vote to award the 2024 Summer Olympics will stay in Lima, Peru, on Sept. 13 as scheduled, the IOC said on Thursday after an exec board meeting. The IOC considered relocating or rescheduling its annual session in light of the devastating floods that have damaged much of the country. At the session, the IOC will choose between L.A. and Paris, with a possible deal to award both the 2024 and 2028 Games still in the cards. “This decision of the IOC executive board is also a demonstration of solidarity with Peru and its people following the wish of the Peruvian government,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “On this occasion the Peruvian government has given us all necessary assurances that the IOC session will be organized in a great way.”
