Televisa To Carry Liga MX Side Chivas Guadalajara Matches Across Latin America

Televisa reached an agreement to broadcast Liga MX side Chivas Guadalajara across Latin America through El Canal de las Estrellas (Channel of the Stars) and OTT service blim, according to Juan Fernandez Gonzalez of RAPID TV NEWS. After Chivas "launched its own streaming platform a year ago," the club has since reached distribution agreements with a "number of platforms." Now, Televisa will join Claro Video, Cinépolis Klic and Chivas TV in airing Chivas' live games. Effective immediately, the deal will see all Chivas matches -- except for the Copa MX final -- air on Televisa’s sports-themed TDN channel in Mexico and El Canal de las Estrellas and blim across Latin America. According to Televisa, the agreement includes all games through the Apertura 2019 (RAPID TV NEWS, 4/10). LA AFICIÓN reported after Televisa announced its deal with Chivas, Chivas TV Dir José Luis Higuera "announced that the platform will continue its services and lower prices." He said that the return of the club's games to TV "is part of a contractual agreement giving Grupo Televisa priority on broadcast rights." Higuera: "I believe the fanbase has not liked returning to Grupo Televisa, but there are contracts and in the end, they had the rights." He added, "The strategy that we have is that we are going to lower prices, which we have been reducing, little by little" (LA AFICIÓN, 4/10).
