Ian Wilson Leads Scottish Championship Side Dumbarton's Push For New Stadium

Scottish Championship side Dumbarton Dir Ian Wilson saw his "boyhood heroes" left "without a home," according to Gareth Law of the SCOTTISH SUN. So, he is "not about to do the same to Dumbarton." Wilson is the man behind Brabco, the club's majority shareholder. A former partner at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and one-time senior IBM exec, he is also "leading the club's push" to a new £13.5M ($16.8M) stadium "on the outskirts of the town." In Wilson's eyes, the switch from The Rock "in the shadows of Dumbarton Castle" to a 4,000-capacity site at Young's Farm will not "just secure the long-term future of the club, but also boost the community." He has been "saddened at a small minority who seem opposed to the move." Wilson said, "We need this move as it will generate non-matchday income which the club needs not just to maintain the current level of football but to also improve that experience for the fans. Probably more importantly it will help make the club financially independent so we're not worrying from season to season about finances." Leeds-based Wilson does not hide the fact Brabco, which is funding planning for the new site, will make money from the sale of The Rock. It will also own the new site, "even though in an ideal world they would gift it" to the club (SCOTTISH SUN, 4/10).
