Aussie Telecom Optus Named Official Network Of 2018 Commonwealth Games

The 2018 Commonwealth Games are "shaping up as an arena" for Optus, which claimed the "honour of being the official network of the event," according to Supratim Adhikari of THE AUSTRALIAN. The telecom has been picked by the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corp. and Commonwealth Games Australia to "provide the entire IT and communications services for the event, which will take place across the Gold Coast, Cairns, Townsville and Brisbane." As part of this partnership, Optus "will deliver high-speed telecommunications infrastructure to more than 30 Games venues, as well as the design and implementation of the Games’ network-­enabling connectivity for broadcasting, telephony, internet and cloud services across all ­venues." Optus will also provide high-speed video and audio services at 23 broadcast locations, "which will eventually be beamed to an estimated audience of more than 1.5 billion people over the course of the Games" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 4/4).
