Olympic Notes: Japan's New National Stadium For 2020 Games To Be Smoke-Free

The Japan Sport Council announced that the new national stadium being planned for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics "is to be completely smoke-free, with no smoking rooms." Ministry of Health, Labor & Welfare policy on anti-secondhand smoke "allows for smoking rooms at baseball stadiums and other sports facilities used for entertainment purposes." While the new national stadium will also be considered a multi-purpose facility, the JSC is opting not to set up smoking rooms, saying they would "go against the times" (THE MAINICHI, 3/31).

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Bid Committee unveiled its 15th official partner, Bouygues Construction, a global sustainable civil engineering and real estate development firm. The company will work alongside the bid to provide innovative construction solutions. With this new announcement, Paris 2024 now has 19 major French sponsors, including 15 official partners and four official suppliers (Paris 2024).
