Dragons CEO Says 'More Work' Needed To Persuade Newport RFC Fans To Back Takeover

Pro12 side Newport Gwent Dragons CEO Stuart Davies said that "more work" is needed to persuade Newport RFC fans to back Welsh Rugby Union plans to take over the region and Rodney Parade, according to the BBC. On Monday, Davies met with Newport RFC supporters, "whose shareholders will decide if the proposal goes through." Davies felt "all those that were vocal" at the meeting were against the plans. The deal on offer would see the WRU take control of the region and Rodney Parade Ground by July 1. Dragons Chair Martyn Hazell said that he believes the takeover "must happen." Hazell added, "The alternative is financial disaster and receivership," signaling the "end of professional rugby at Rodney Parade" (BBC, 3/28).
