FIFA To Pay Everton's Seamus Coleman's Wages While Injured

Seamus Coleman’s wages will be paid by FIFA "while the Everton full back recovers from the double leg break suffered on international duty," according to Paul Joyce of the LONDON TIMES. Coleman "underwent successful surgery in Dublin on Saturday after the horrific injury the previous night" in Ireland’s draw with Wales. He "now faces a painstaking rehabilitation." The right back is "expected to be out for at least six months and his wages, estimated to be in the region" of £50,000 ($62,832) a week, will be covered during that period by the FIFA Club Protection Programme. Everton sent its physiotherapists to Dublin on Saturday "to liaise with doctors" and Ireland Manager Martin O’Neill said, "He has realized everything that has happened and is obviously very disappointed. It will take some time to heal. It's a double break but it has been pinned up now and screwed in" (LONDON TIMES, 3/27).
